Below is just a snapshot of what you can expect.
Out and about
Our students have many opportunities within our School. Recent activities have seen our students learning from beyond the classroom.
Ripon Museum
Ripon Museum
Students from the Violence in Society and Introduction to Criminology modules took part in a thought-provoking field trip to Ripon Museums, where they explored the historic Workhouse, Prison, and Police Museum.
The visit gave students a chance to step outside the classroom and connect what they’ve learned with real-life history. They saw how punishment and social control were handled in the past, and how these systems have shaped today’s understanding of justice. The trip also encouraged students to think critically about how society treats victims and offenders, and to reflect on the experiences of disadvantaged groups in 18th- and 19th-century Britain.
By walking through these powerful historical spaces, students gained a deeper appreciation of how past inequalities still influence the present forms of punishment and inequality.
London's crime history
London's crime history
Recently, some of our Level 6 students who study Criminology, Policing, and Law went on a two-night trip to London.
While there, students visited famous sites with a history of crime. This included:
- a walking tour of the East End
- a guided tour of the Royal Courts of Justice
- watching a live trial at the Old Bailey.
The trip provided students with an invaluable opportunity to learn about the history of the legal profession and witness how a live trial works.
