Hate crime

Hate crimes are criminal acts, including harassment or threats of violence, that are motivated by an individual’s prejudice or hostility in relation to somebody’s actual or perceived: 

  • Race 
  • Disability 
  • Religion 
  • Sexual Orientation 
  • Transgender identity 

The motivation for the crime is what makes it a hate crime, even if the perpetrator only believes that this characteristic is present.
