Sports Therapist, Bradford Bulls Women’s Rugby League Team
I had the amazing opportunity of working with Bradford City Women’s Football Club before becoming the main Sports Therapist for Bradford Bulls Women’s Rugby League Team
Why I chose Leeds Trinity
I chose to attend Leeds Trinity with it being a smaller University. I liked the feel of the campus and the atmosphere when I attended an Open Day, this made me realise it was a good fit for me. I chose to do the Sports Therapy and Rehabilitation course and I was impressed upon seeing the facilities and knew that I’d be happy studying here.
Valuable placements
I undertook two placements during my time at Leeds Trinity. One was at Bradford Bulls Women’s Rugby League and the other was at Bradford City Women’s Association Football Club. Both placements proved to be really important as I was officially working at Bradford City and then I got offered a job with the Bradford Bulls Women’s team as the main physio. This resulted in me not only overseeing the Women’s First Team but the Academy Girls Team as well.
Course highlights
The element I enjoyed most about the course was the practicality. I’m not a very good learner when things are just spoken at me so the hands on practical sessions we had really gave me momentum to develop my skills in a way I had never imagined. It prepared me so much for life and my career after university.
Leaving Leeds Trinity with new skills
I feel that I left University with so many new skills. Being able to take part in the Riasa Clinic (the UK's leading international college soccer programme) really allowed me to see how a clinic setting functioned and how sports therapy can be broken down into pitch-side work and clinic work. This motivated me to open my own clinic at the end of 2024.
My communication skills also grew throughout the course. I had really bad anxiety and would hate speaking in groups but now I am able to communicate confidently to a whole team as well as give talks and presentations to the new trialists attempting to join the teams.
My career since graduating
I am grateful that my career went well since leaving University. I realise that a great deal of a career in this field is based on who you know and through building effective relationships. I had the amazing opportunity of working with Bradford City Women’s Football Club before becoming the main Sports Therapist for Bradford Bulls Women’s Rugby League Team and also the Club Physio for Fields Association Football Club - a Men’s Step 7 Football team (National League Ranking System).
