Why I chose to study at Leeds Trinity
I chose Leeds Trinity as the environment was so friendly and because of the opportunities to gain professional work experiences. There was also a clear willingness to explore new technologies.
What I enjoyed about studying at Leeds Trinity
I enjoyed studying Computer Science at Leeds Trinity University as there was a good mix between practical elements and lectures. I also found that the lecturers were very helpful and make themselves available to you, they also kept me informed of different societies I can join such as the teens in AI which led me down the path that I’m in today.
Support for the next stage
There were a lot of access to bursaries, potential scholarships and assistance in finding valuable placements. As well as university projects I also took advantage of two placements that provided valuable work experience.
When I was in my final year, I decided to delve deeper into the field of Computer Science by pursuing a master’s degree in advanced computer science. The support I had from my lecturers, and the Careers+Placement team was invaluable, guiding me through scholarships and different career options post-graduation.
New skills I left Leeds Trinity with
I developed a strong understanding of front-end development principles and tools as well as software methodologies and techniques. I left with a strong foundation to explore different avenues in technology which led me to my passion which was data analytics.
Setting me up for my career
My interest gravitated towards data analytics, which became the foundation of my dissertation. I studied a postgraduate degree at another institution and my passion on data science and machine learning led to my current role as an MI Analyst at Pure Retirement.
This position allowed me to apply a range of analytical skills that I’ve learned and I am excited to continue expanding my expertise as I work towards becoming a data scientist.
My advice to prospective students
Throw yourself in at the deep end and do not be afraid to face any obstacles as they are just a part of learning. Computer Science is in demand and very valued across all industries so you can always combine your passion of technology with other sectors that you’re interested in including health, finance and industrial positions.
The course also emphasises the importance of women in STEM and you will be supported and guided throughout your studies.
