Why I chose to attend Leeds Trinity

I chose to attend Leeds Trinity as when I visited for an Open Day I really liked the size of the campus and the personal approach that was so evident throughout my visit. The structure of the sports coaching course was also exactly what I wanted out of a degree.

What I loved about the course

The content of the course was spot-on and I could really develop my passion for coaching at every stage. My personal tutor, Jon Radcliffe, was always a huge support and he really made a difference to my student experience.

My best memories

Without question, joining the football team was the best thing I did as a student. I was quite shy when I came to the University, but after being encouraged by a friend to play in the Football Team I went on to become the Third Team captain. Staying in the league on the last day of the season, against all odds, is something I will never forget.

My other best memory was graduating with all my family here to celebrate with me.

Life after graduating

Before coming to University, I had been working at Burton Albion Football Club in different capacities including the office, hospitality and even within the maintenance team. I continued to work there again after graduating and then I saw the Assistant Sport Development Officer position become available at Leeds Trinity in 2022, offering me the chance of pursuing my passion for coaching. It was amazing to come back to campus, it just felt like I was coming back home.

How I’ve changed as a person after attending Leeds Trinity

I am so much more confident than I was when I first arrived as a student and this has helped me raise my own levels of performance and as a coach. Initially I was reluctant to get involved with clubs and societies but the warm and friendly atmosphere and camaraderie in the Football Club changed my life.

My advice to others attending Leeds Trinity

Really embrace the opportunity of coming here, you will be given the opportunity to put what you learn in to practice. You will have chances both internally and externally, so focus on both. Externally you can take advantage of the placement experiences on your course and internally you can get involved with clubs and societies and make friends for life.
