SEO Lead at Sainsbury's
One of the main things I took away from the course was the essential building blocks to gain an understanding of the key fundamentals of business and how sustained growth and performance can be in achieved when they are implemented correctly.
My time at Leeds Trinity
I started my studies at Leeds Trinity in 2016 when I enrolled on the Business and Management undergraduate course. I then stayed on to do a Masters in International Business.
Invaluable skills from my courses at Leeds Trinity
I was able to learn so much from the modules on my undergraduate degree which included business and management strategy, business ethics, corporate sustainability, operations management, people management and marketing communications.
One of the main things I took away from my course was the essential building blocks to gain an understanding of the key fundamentals of business and how sustained growth and performance can be in achieved when they are implemented correctly.
I was able to diversify my knowledge base further after I enrolled on the International Business Masters degree. I gained a deeper understanding of the main areas of business and I also took away a new international perspective on these areas.
Valuable placement opportunities
I was able to take advantage of a placement at Arcadia group Ltd. Here I helped to oversee the screening and recruitment of candidates into the customer care team at the company. I was able to get involved with online applications, interviews, screening as well as utilising psychometric testing to assess candidates.
Support from the Careers and Placement team
The Careers and Placement team were extremely helpful during my time at Leeds Trinity. When I was studying at undergraduate level I wasn’t sure which industry I wanted to go into and they helped me to look at different options and also supported the interview process. They also helped me to explore the possibility of doing a Masters course and advised me about the different options around financing it.
My career since graduating
When I was still undertaking my International Business Masters course I got a job with SALT.agency, a technical SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) agency. I have since progressed to Senior SEO Executive. In October 2024, I started a new role as SEO Lead at Sainsbury's.
My advice to others
When you are applying for jobs, don’t take any rejections to heart, you may not be successful straightaway. Try and remain positive throughout the process. If you do get an interview always ask questions at the end to show how much you are interested and want to find out more about the company. This really stands out. If you are unsuccessful, always ask for feedback as it could make all the difference for your next interview.
One thing I really learnt coming out of a degree was the value of networking. It is a very valuable chance to get your name out there, especially for a career like I am involved with now, in SEO.
Try and get yourself into a good routine before you start full-time employment, going from student to working 9 to 5 is quite a big change!
