Health and Social Care Lecturer and Nutritional Therapist
I continue to work as a nutritional therapist, however the Masters has led to my full time role as a Health and Social Care Lecturer.
Why I chose to study at Leeds Trinity
I chose Leeds Trinity because of its reputation and the course I was interested in was available as a distance option. In addition to this, the course had been running as an online course successfully for several years.
What I enjoyed most about the course
I enjoyed the content and the delivery, along with learning from my tutors who are experts in the field. The online course delivery was flexible and engaging and platforms used for study materials, events and interactions were solid and easy to access.
New skills
I have worked in the field for most of my career and it was great to formalise and expand on my working knowledge. The challenge of organising oneself as a distance student and meeting deadlines and course requirements was trying but most rewarding.
New opportunities
I continue to work as a nutritional therapist, however the Masters has led to my full time role as a Health and Social Care Lecturer. I have worked in education for most of my career and my current role enables me to do what I enjoy most and work with young people to help develop their knowledge and skills in the field.
My advice to prospective students thinking about doing a similar course
The course I chose was a distance course and one needed to be realistic about the challenges of working in isolation. Strong organisation and planning is a must. I invested in a huge wall planner and marked key dates such as term dates, assignment deadlines and online sessions which helped to predict crunch times. I would also suggest that online session attendance is a must, whether that is lectures, workshops or tutorials: it is really important to engage with staff and students, even if it is just to touch base.
