Assistant Schedule Executive, ITV
I wouldn’t have got my dream job and all of the skills that I have now without the talented lecturers and high-standard equipment and facilities that Leeds Trinity has.
Why I chose to study at Leeds Trinity University
Choosing Leeds Trinity University was a no-brainer for me, especially studying Television Production. The range of facilities and equipment that it offered was impressive. Speaking to the tutors gave me a great insight that this was the course that I was wanted to do. On top of a fantastic campus that has everything in one place, it gave me an amazing university experience.
What I enjoyed most about my course
Television Production is a fantastic practical course, it allowed me to learn all the different aspects of making Television. The University's professional standard Television Studio gave me the opportunity to learn how to make a studio show. I was also able to take advantage of the amazing Media Services office to take out high-standard equipment and make content including documentaries and on location films. It gave me great experience to take with me in my career.
Placement opportunities
I completed a five-week placement module in my first year. This was a great experience to work in the industry that I was wanted to get into. I did the first half of my placement at the University's in-house production company Trinity Vision. This gave me the opportunity to work with external clients and help them with creating videos that would be used on their social media and websites. This enabled me to use industry-standard equipment and learn and develop new skills.
Then I did a two-week placement at ITV Leeds working in the Content Delivery department. This was a fantastic opportunity to work for one of the leading broadcasters in the country. While I was there I worked in different departments learning how content delivery functions. This included working in the late and live department which is responsible for putting live programmes onto digital platforms. I also worked in the archive delivery where I was coding old clips from tapes and making them into digital copies that would be sent to customers that had requested them. I also worked on an individual project for a customer in which I had to use my organisational, problem solving and time keeping skills to make sure that the old films that had been sent in were digitally restored and completed on time. It was a great experience and gave me great contacts to help me further down the line.
Utilising other facilities on campus
The Library had a wide range of resources for all my needs. For many of my essays, I undertook a lot of research and the wide range of books was a fantastic help when completing my work. The Learning Hub was always a great support to help with any queries and issues that I had when trying to make my work as good as possible. This is a great resource that helps in the best way possible.
Securing my first graduate role
I had been looking at industry jobs and getting my CV out there. I was then contacted and offered an interview which led to securing my first industry job which is working for ITV as an Assistant Schedule Executive.
This role entails working on the digital channels of ITV including ITV2, with a variety of responsibilities. This includes building schedules, sending schedules to transmission, working on changes that can affect the schedule including events and shows like Love Island. Working for ITV was an ambition that I worked towards throughout my whole time at Leeds Trinity and from my two-week placement, I knew that ITV was the place that I wanted to work.
Great opportunities
Leeds Trinity gave me a lot of opportunities especially for the industry that I wanted to work in. I was given all of the support to help me get the correct connections and secure fantastic placements and experiences.
This University is very special, it has a brilliant culture that will let you grow and guide you through the whole process of University life. I wouldn’t have got my dream job and all of the skills that I have now without the talented lecturers and high-standard equipment and facilities that Leeds Trinity has.
