At Leeds Trinity, I was able to receive the academic support I needed, to steer my own study in the right directions, while being encouraged to bring my own ideas to the forefront of my work.

Why the course was just right for me

I loved my studies. Within the course I found the flexibility and space to develop my own ideas and arguments, while expanding my knowledge and love for the subject. One huge draw for me, was the fact that the course was 100% essay based, which is quite uncommon. I appreciate the need for examinations, but I feel that they can be quite restrictive, and unfairly weighted towards those who simply have the knack to deliver under pressure. You can’t rush art.

Leeds Trinity offered a unique learning experience

A unique aspect of the course that I really enjoyed was the opportunity for small class-based discussions and debates, which I don’t feel I would’ve experienced had I attended a larger university. Larger universities and mammoth lecture halls have their place, but I don’t think I would have come away with the grades I did learning in that environment. Leeds Trinity can offer a much more hands on experience compared to most other larger universities, which I think is very beneficial when studying a topic such as ours.

Steering my own educational journey

Philosophy isn’t something you can engage with from a textbook, it’s a lived experience, something we all share and communicate without even knowing we do it. At Leeds Trinity, I was able to receive the academic support I needed, to steer my own study in the right directions, while being encouraged to bring my own ideas to the forefront of my work. I still use the skills I developed throughout my degree every single day and I find myself engaging with people about topics I studied all the time.

What I enjoyed most about the course

The single thing I enjoyed most about my studies was researching and writing my dissertation. Which I still can’t wrap my head around. Even though I had spent the best part of two and a half years worrying about eventually writing it, when I did, it was a truly enjoyable and proud moment. Being given complete freedom to write about whatever you wish, however you wish, within the topic, seemed daunting. It is a piece of work I will always be proud of, and I have those at Leeds Trinity to thank for giving me the tools to allow me to achieve this.
