Why I chose Leeds Trinity and my best memories

I chose Leeds Trinity because of the two six week placements that were offered and because of the fact you are a name not number at this university. As I was local it also gave me the chance to study whilst still living at home. I have to say, my best memory is graduating and celebrating this special time with my friends and family.

Supported career development 

I learnt a lot about project management and also how to give effective presentations. In my final year I really learnt how to prioritise, balance different projects and effective management. 

The placements I had were very useful too, despite being in different sectors to what I was necessarily used to. My first one was at The Career Farm (a company offering careers support and guidance in Harrogate) – it was here that I really honed my social media skills. 

The second placement was at Scarcroft Golf Club in Leeds. Despite me not playing golf I maximised the opportunities available and developed corporate relationships. I only had six weeks here but came up with a concise 6-week action plan to make my mark. I was delighted that after this placement I was given six weeks paid work during the summer. 

My current role and how it came about

After I graduated I worked in call centre but I kept my contacts with the Graduate Employability Team. When a job at Bupa came up in September 2017, the team gave me tips to best prepare for my interview.

I started as the Mergers & Acquisition Project Administrator and after a successful 18 months in the role I was offered a promotion. I am now enjoying my new role as a Mergers & Acquisition Executive for Bupa in Leeds. Bupa is an international healthcare group covering elderly care, dental, health & travel insurance. 

Returning to campus to speak to students

I felt very supported as student which is why I was delighted to be on to campus and share my career journey with current students. It’s nice to come back to somewhere that feels like home and to see friendly faces who recognise you.

My advice for students

My strongest advice is to use the careers team like I did! As well as providing different support they also have so many opportunities available. When you are applying for jobs go to every interview that you are invited to, they really are a great experience to have under your belt. And whatever you do, no matter how tough things get, don’t give up!​
