High Street TV is one of the UK’s largest and most successful multi-channel retailers operating in the UK and internationally. We develop, source, and sell innovative lifestyle products across five 24-hour dedicated shopping channels. Based in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, we are one of the UK’s fastest growing companies as recognised by the Sunday Times Fast Track 100.
Leeds Trinity University is local to us and as Head of Human Resources, I first reached out to the Centre for Apprenticeships, Work-Based Learning and Skills team unsure if they would be able to support with what we were looking for from an apprenticeship programme. I liaised with Relationships Manager Dan Lancaster-Holmes, who made the process easy to follow, was extremely knowledgeable, and answered any questions we had in good time. The process was dealt with in a quick, professional, effective manner and we now have two apprentices studying at Leeds Trinity as part of their Chartered Manager and Digital Marketer Degree Apprenticeships.
Introducing apprentices at High Street TV was far simpler than expected – I came into the process thinking things were going to be more difficult than they were. I was under the impression it was going to be long and drawn out with many hoops to jump through. This was not the situation at all – it was easy, very simple and quick.
As a business, employing an apprentice has enabled us to adapt their training to support our business needs. We have found that apprentices are eager and willing to learn new skills, as well as bringing fresh ideas and very often a new perspective to the workplace. Apprentices can grow and develop professionally within High Street TV, future proofing the business in the long-term. With government funding in place to help with apprenticeship training, we are also financially supported.
For any employers considering how they might prepare for an apprenticeship, my key piece of advice would be to not overthink it! The process is simple and there is someone at the end of the phone you can talk to who will point you in the right direction at any time if you need help or guidance.
