About the course

The course is a comprehensive introduction for SENART (Special Educational Needs Assessment and Review Teams) casework officers/teams. It was written for the casework officers' role and the complexities of their duties. This includes supporting person-centered practices allowing them to effectively work with families to support children and young people. It incorporates practical skills and strategies, solution orientated practice, working with interpreters and maintaining personal well-being, 

The training is designed to fulfill the principles behind the Children’s and Family Act (2014) and the fundamental understanding/interpretation of the act and how to implement this in professional practice. 

The course is broken down into a series of related five interrelated topics with associated materials. The theme of each session:

  1. Complexity of the role, co-production, and person-centred planning
  2. Communication and developing a communication strategy
  3. Inclusive education and the Equality Act for casework officers.
  4. Culturally inclusive conversations including working with interpreters
  5. Managing workloads and Well Being for Casework Officers

Delivery, attendees and costs

How is it delivered?

Delivery is face-to-face over two, seven hour days on site at the booking Local Authority premises. 

Dates are negotiated on an individual Local Authority basis.

Who should attend?

Staff employed as SENART officers within a local authority. This course is designed for a maximum of 20 staff in order to allow for effective engagement with the content.

How much does it cost?

£3000, plus travel costs and subsistence for up to 20 staff.
