Home from home

Moving into university accommodation is a big part of student life, and we’re here to make it as smooth and welcoming as possible.

Whether you'll be living on campus or commuting in, this page has some key information you need to get prepared.

Key information

Bills and TV licence

If you're living in Leeds Trinity-owned accommodation – either on the Horsforth Campus or at Clarence Dock Village – your rent includes:

  • gas, electricity and water
  • internet access
  • contents insurance

If you're living elsewhere, make sure you know what bills you're responsible for. You can email the Money Advice team if you're unsure.

You'll also need a TV licence if you plan to watch any live television or use BBC iPlayer in your room or shared space.

Check TV licensing rules.

Arrivals and moving in

If you've accepted a room in university accommodation, we'll email you details about your move-in date, how to collect your keys and what to bring with you.

If you're living off campus, you can still get involved in student life. Visit our travel and sustainability page for information about commuting and planning your journey to university.

Living in Leeds

From city-centre shopping to buzzing cafés, music venues and green spaces, Leeds is packed with things to explore and enjoy while you study.

Fees and funding

If you're eligible for student finance for the 2025/26 academic year, we hope you've already applied. If not, apply as soon as possible to avoid any delay in receiving your funding.

If you're unsure about your eligibility - for example, if you’ve lived outside the UK, have previous higher education experience, or are not a UK national - email our Money Advice team for guidance.

Help with the cost of studying

We know that covering costs isn’t easy for every student, and that’s why we have a range of support available to reduce barriers to learning caused by financial pressures. From on campus support such as free period products, and our free shuttle bus in the Horsforth area, to access to IT facilities, and loans of IT devices. Students experiencing financial difficulties can chat to our support teams about short term support from our Grub Hub, food vouchers and travel passes.

Registering with a local GP

If you're living on our Horsforth Campus, at Clarence Dock or at a new term-time address, we strongly recommend registering with a local doctor, unless you wish to continue receiving support for an existing issue elsewhere.

This will help ensure you can access healthcare quickly if you need it.
