Before you start

Your step-by-step guide to starting university

Essential first steps

There are a few important things to do before you begin your studies at Leeds Trinity.

This page will guide you through the steps to help you get set up and ready to start.

You'll also receive a Get Going Guide by email or post before you arrive, with even more useful information.

Step 1: Register your username and password

You'll receive your Leeds Trinity username and password by email, using the contact details you provided when you applied.

Once you've got them, head to myltu.leedstrinity.ac.uk to log in.

This will give you access to everything you need, including your registration portal, student email, timetable and more.

If you've changed your email or postal address since you applied, please let us know as soon as possible so we can make sure your login details get to you. You can update your contact details by emailing admissions@leedstrinity.ac.uk.

Set up multi-factor authentication (MFA)

When you first log into our IT systems, you'll need to set up multi-factor authentication (MFA) to keep your account secure. We use the Microsoft Authenticator app as the second step in the login process.

Download the app to your mobile device from the App Store or Google Play. Once it's installed, you'll be prompted to set it up the first time you log in with your Leeds Trinity username and password.

With MFA in place, you'll be able to access university systems securely, reset your password if needed and protect your account from unauthorised access.

Step 2: myLTU

myLTU is your personalised portal where you'll find everything you need for student life at Leeds Trinity.

Once you're fully enrolled and your course has started, you’ll be able to access:

  • your personal timetable
  • Moodle - our virtual learning environment
  • your university emails
  • e:Vision - the home of your student record
  • the myLTU digital register to check into your classes
  • information and contact details for student services
  • the Library website
  • details about Leeds Trinity Students' Union
  • the latest university news and events

Download myLTU

We recommend downloading and installing the myLTU app to your mobile device before you arrive, so you're ready to go from day one.

You'll need to complete multi-factor authentication (MFA) to access the app. If you’d prefer to wait and set this up with support once you're on campus, that’s absolutely fine.

You can find the app by searching myLTU on the App Store or Google Play. If you don’t have a smartphone, don’t worry - you can also access myLTU on a computer at myltu.leedstrinity.ac.uk. Log in using your student email and password.

Make sure you accept push notifications to stay updated with important messages and reminders.

Step 3: Register for your degree

You must complete online registration before the start of term. This confirms your place at Leeds Trinity and gives you full access to university systems and services.

You'll register using our e:Vision platform. Once you've received your Leeds Trinity username and password by email, log in to your account and follow the steps under ‘Programme Registration’. You can access e:Vision via evision.leedstrinity.ac.uk or through the myLTU app.

We'll send you your login details before you start, so keep an eye on your email and register as soon as you receive them.

What to expect during registration

Registration usually takes around 5–10 minutes.

You'll be asked to complete the following sections:

  • privacy statement
  • clearance checks (any documents needed to confirm your place)
  • home contact details
  • term-time contact details (use your Leeds Trinity email address)
  • upload a student ID photo
  • trusted other contact information
  • personal information
  • academic regulations and Students’ Union information
  • confirmation

Please note: most questions are mandatory. You won't be able to move to the next section until you've completed everything and uploaded your photo.

For help, select the ‘Step-by-Step guide’ under the Programme Registration button, or use the Help tab in the top right corner of the e:Vision homepage.

Full or provisional registration status

Once you’ve completed your programme registration, your e:Vision account will confirm whether your status is full or provisional.

Full registration

You’ll be fully registered if you’ve met all the required admission checks – for example, providing proof of your qualifications or a satisfactory DBS certificate (if needed).
This gives you full access to Leeds Trinity facilities and makes you eligible to receive any student finance or bursaries.

Provisional registration

If any checks are still outstanding when you register, you’ll be classed as provisionally registered.
This means you can start your course and use university facilities, but you won’t be able to receive student funding until all conditions are met.

If you have any questions, please contact the Admissions team at admissions@leedstrinity.ac.uk.

Step 4: Student ID card

Your student ID card is an important part of university life. You’ll need to wear it at all times while on campus, and it must not be used by anyone else.

Your card gives you access to university buildings, learning resources, printing, and - if you’re living on the Horsforth Campus - it also acts as one of your accommodation keys. It will remain valid throughout your course, so please keep it safe. If you lose your card, you will have to pay for a replacement.

You'll receive more information about collecting your ID card in your Get Going Guide and welcome emails.

Choosing the right photo

To complete your online registration, you'll need to upload a photo of yourself. This image will be used to create your student ID card before you arrive, so please make sure you have one ready before you begin.

Your photo must follow standard passport photo guidelines. You won't be able to finish your registration without it.
