Travel and sustainability

Plan how you’ll get to campus and see how we support sustainable travel

Getting around sustainably

Whether you’re commuting from home or living in university accommodation, there are plenty of ways to get to and from our Horsforth Campus and Leeds City Campus.

From free shuttle buses to student travel discounts and secure bike storage, we'll help you get where you need to be and make greener choices along the way.

Shuttle bus

We run a free, accessible shuttle bus serving key locations around Horsforth - including the train station, local supermarket, doctors and dentists - to help make campus life easier.

You'll find the shuttle bus timetable and latest service updates under the Campus Life tile on myLTU or on our website. You can also ask at Reception on the Main Campus in Horsforth.

Public transport

Leeds has excellent transport links, with regular buses and trains connecting both campuses to the wider region.

To plan your journey:

Students can access travel discounts through:

  • discounted passes via M-Card
  • a 16–25 Railcard (available to all students, even if you’re over 25)
  • UniDays, Student Beans and Totum

Parking at Horsforth Campus

Parking is limited, so we recommend using public transport or the free shuttle bus whenever possible.

If you do need to drive:

  • pay and display is available Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 4:30pm (£5 per day via cash, card or RingGo app)
  • accessible bays are free with a valid Blue Badge
  • EV charging is available in the South Car Park behind Fountains Court

Parking permits

A limited number of permits are available for:

  • Yarnbury Rugby Club: £40 per term (weekdays only) for students not living in Horsforth accommodation
  • Trinity Close: £200 per year on a first-come, first-served basis

We can't offer permits to students living in other on-campus accommodation. If you're moving in, we recommend not bringing a car.

Off-campus parking

Leeds City Council has introduced restricted parking zones around the Horsforth Campus.

Always follow local signs and be considerate to residents, pedestrians and other road users.

Parking at City Campus

There is no student parking at the City Campus.

Nearby public car parks include:

  • Trinity Leeds (LS1 4AG)
  • Leeds Station (LS1 4HT)
  • Q-Park The Light (LS1 8TL)
  • pay-and-display options on Whitehall Road

Cycling to campus

We offer secure cycle storage at both campuses:

  • Horsforth Campus: outside the Sports Centre and near the West Car Park
  • City Campus: basement storage, with showers and lockers nearby

Travel questions

What bus routes can I take to get to campus?

To find the best bus routes to our Horsforth or City Campus, plan your route and check the latest timetables on the West Yorkshire Metro website.

If you're travelling by train, you can find times and buy tickets on Northern Rail's website.

How will I fit travel into my day?

Work out your route in advance and allow extra time during your first few weeks.

Once you’ve checked your timetable on myLTU or e:Vision, you can plan your day around it.

How will I pay for travel?

This depends on your circumstances.

If you're struggling to cover travel costs, contact the Money Advice team: moneyadvice@leedstrinity.ac.uk

What if there’s a delay or disruption?

If you're delayed and might miss a class, email your lecturer as soon as you can.

How often will I need to travel to campus?

This depends on your course.

Check your timetable regularly on e:Vision or myLTU.

Can I bring my car to Horsforth Campus?

We advise against it due to limited space. But if you need to drive, plan your route and parking in advance.
