A weekly podcast recorded in the radio studios at Leeds Trinity University has been nominated for the Best Sport accolade at the British Podcast Awards 2019.
LS11 is a Leeds United podcast, hosted by Leeds Trinity Journalism lecturer Darren Harper and Ryan Wilson of The Pigeon Detectives. Recorded and filmed weekly, the show features guests from the world of football, with Leeds Trinity students involved in the production, editing and promotion of the podcast on social media.
The hosts were recently joined by former Leeds United goalkeeper Neil Sullivan, to discuss the club's current performance and personal anecdotes from his footballing career including the infamous halfway line goal from Manchester United's David Beckham in 1996, against Sullivan who played for Wimbledon.
The LS11 Podcast faces competition at the British Podcast Awards from Formula 1, James Richardson and Graham Hunter, with the likes of Chris Moyles, George Ezra and Katie Piper nominated in other categories.
Darren Harper, Lecturer in Journalism at Leeds Trinity University and co-host of the LS11 podcast, said:
"Both myself and Ryan are a bit stunned and overwhelmed about being nominated. It's a huge honour, to be talked about in the company of these other 'big' podcasts. Who knew that two blokes and a guest chatting about Leeds United would do so well?"
LS11 is sponsored by Sandal Auto, The Terrace and The Social Maze, and its 10,000 listeners can tune in via Facebook, YouTube and subscription platforms such as Apple Podcasts and Spotify. ?
The British Podcast Awards 2019 will take place on Saturday 18 May in London, and will be hosted by British comedian, actress, writer and podcaster Cariad Lloyd.
The awards have been running since 2017, showcasing podcasts from across the country of all genres, providing a space for producers, presenters, writers and performers to share their ideas and have fun. The full list of nominees can be viewedhere.?
