Leeds Trinity University student Hannah Page graduates today with a degree in Primary Education: Early Years and a full-time teaching position after making a bold career move and returning to higher education three years ago. ?

25-year-old Hannah, from Bradford, previously formed a well-established career in graphic design and worked as a Special Constable for West Yorkshire Police. During her time with the force, Hannah carried out front line policing duties as well as liaising with local schools and colleges to promote crime prevention. She was also able to speak to individuals about their crimes, lifestyle and childhood, enhancing her interest and desire to work in Early Years development and education.

In July 2018, she travelled to South Africa to volunteer as a teacher in primary schools and an orphanage as part of the University's ongoing work with the Bambisanani Partnership. Prior to leaving, Hannah was involved in fundraising initiatives, training and lesson planning, and once in South Africa she taught students literacy and mathematics.

Reflecting on her time at Leeds Trinity, and her decision to change career path, Hannah said: "I had considered leaving my full-time employment for a long time and finally made the decision to attend university in 2016. Returning to full-time education was logistically and financially difficult, whilst being extremely academically demanding. Through a lot of commitment and determination, I have achieved a degree classification higher than I had ever hoped for, along with securing my first teaching post in an outstanding primary school."

She added: "During the three years, I have gained a wealth of knowledge in Early Years education and had the opportunity to apply the knowledge in practice. With the support from tutors at Leeds Trinity University, its partnership schools and mentors, I have exceeded my own expectations. I cannot wait to call a class my own this September."

Megan Stephenson, Senior Lecturer in the Institute of Childhood and Education at Leeds Trinity University, said: "Hannah has been an outstanding, dedicated and determined individual from day one. She has impressed all the lecturers with her First-Class knowledge and academic work and remained a solid, loyal mentor and friend to many in her cohort. She deserves the accolade and degree qualification she has been awarded."

Since joining Leeds Trinity in 2016, Hannah has excelled in her academic studies whilst maintaining a balance between home life and employment. Alongside achieving a First-Class degree, Hannah will also be awarded the Vice-Chancellor's Prize in recognition of her outstanding academic results and has secured a full-time teaching position with her placement school. ?
