Leeds Trinity University welcomed academics and cinematographers from the New York Film Academy (NYFA) to deliver a masterclass on 'The Art of Visual Storytelling'.
Staff and students from across the University were in attendance to listen to BAFTA award-winning cinematographer Anthony B. Richmond share his expertise from over 60 years in the industry. Mr. Richmond is a member of the American and British Societies of Cinematographers, and is the Chair of Cinematography at NYFA.
During the masterclass, he discussed the camerawork in films such as Oliver Twist (1948) and Lawrence of Arabia (1962), offering industry knowledge and reflecting on his own notable career. Students from Leeds Trinity also had the opportunity to ask questions about his career and the film industry.
Renowned for his work with British director Nicolas Roeg during the 70s and 80s, Mr. Richmond worked on science fiction film The Man Who Fell to Earth which stars David Bowie as the protagonist. In 1974, he won the BAFTA for Best Cinematography for independent thriller Don't Look Now.
Mr. Richmond was also responsible for photography on the influential British music scene of the late 60s, and he shot with the Rolling Stones and The Beatles. His most recent credits as Director of Photography include: Legally Blonde, Good Luck Chuck, Just Friends, John Tucker Must Die and Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules.
He said: "I'm very fortunate to be in the position I am tod??ay, but I've never forgotten the help I got as a young man from my mentors. The students at Leeds Trinity are so lucky to have access to such fantastic media facilities and equipment as they start their careers in cinematography."
The Media Centre at Leeds Trinity houses the latest media technology for students with two state-of-the-art television studios, radio studios, an Apple iMac lab, editing suites and production rooms. All Leeds Trinity students can benefit from equipment hire, bespoke media training and use of the facilities. ?
Roger Del Pozo, Associate Director of Outreach at NYFA, said: "It was fantastic visiting Leeds Trinity University and getting an opportunity to engage with the students. They were very sophisticated, clearly love film, and they had some fantastic questions for Mr. Richmond. The staff could not have been more accommodating. I can't wait to visit again."
