Amelia graduates with a First-Class degree today following her impressive efforts, which also earned her the Dean’s Award for excellent achievement, over her three years on the course.

She is now working for the BBC as a radio producer, news bulletin presenter and reporter.

The job came about following a successful work placement with BBC Radio Humberside in August 2022, who then offered her a freelance contract to work weekends to fit around her education. Upon the completion of her final year assignments, Amelia moved home to take on midweek shifts with the station, before recently securing similar contracts with BBC Lincolnshire and BBC Sheffield.

The work will continue to develop her abilities, knowledge and network as she endeavours towards landing her dream role as a main presenter, something she gained good experience of when she fronted an international TV news programme, combining eight universities from seven different countries, as part of her degree.
On securing a position as a producer, presenter and reporter, Amelia said: “It is really exciting to be working for the BBC. I’m from Hull so I used to walk past the BBC offices and think ‘I hope to work there one day.’ To have been offered freelance work with them feels like a dream and I cannot believe how lucky I am to already be working in the industry. I love the work I am doing as well as no two days are the same, it is always new and interesting.”

Alongside her studies, Amelia took on an internship at Leeds Trinity as University Project Officer (Digital & Screen Media Digital Assistant). The student internship scheme is available to all final year students as an additional way to enhance and develop employability skills prior to graduating. Amelia produced a range of video content to promote the journalism department, and highly recommends the course she was on.

Amelia said: “Broadcast Journalism is a brilliant, practical course that really teaches you the skills you need to get a job in the industry. I feel assured it has taught me everything I need to know to succeed, and my confidence has grown massively. The lecturers are amazing too, you feel as though they are not only there to teach you, but to be a friend who you can have a good relationship with. Overall, I’ve had a brilliant time at Leeds Trinity.”

Katherine Blair, Associate Professor (Professional Practice) at Leeds Trinity University and Amelia’s personal tutor, said: “Amelia has grown so much in confidence over her three years at Leeds Trinity. She was shy to begin with, but she took on any challenge as she pushed herself to improve, and her hard work has paid off. I am so pleased she has been able to achieve a First, win the Dean’s Award and work for the BBC even before graduating. Amelia is a star and has a brilliant future ahead of her.”
