Guided by its Catholic identity and faith foundation, Leeds Trinity University’s mission is to focus on opportunities for students from all backgrounds, to provide an exceptional educational experience in a diverse community, and to actively support social justice.  

This coupled with the University introducing Nursing degrees from 2024, subject to approval by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), in addition to a new degree in Biomedical Science and its Health and Social Care courses, demonstrates how the partnership has come at the right time to support and enhance developments in health at Leeds Trinity.  

CHA is a valuable resource for information, services and programmes, especially for the those involved with Catholic health care. Having such membership allows Leeds Trinity access to a wealth of useful information and education tools provided by the association.  

As part of this, CHA provides information about strategic areas of ethics, mission, leadership formation, sponsorship, health reform, advocacy, community benefit and international outreach. Its extensive portfolio of webinars also provides a convenient, affordable way for members to learn about timely issues and trends and to advance their professional development, supporting innovative practices and ideas.  

Professor Phil Hodgson, Dean of the Faculty of Social and Health Sciences at Leeds Trinity University, said: “As a University with a Catholic foundation and international outlook, it seems a natural step to work with an established Catholic nursing and healthcare organisation and association based in the United States. Leeds Trinity will be able to access resources, engage in debates, join networks and seminars and establish connections with like-minded nursing and healthcare professionals and academics internationally.” 

Professor Charles Egbu, Vice-Chancellor at Leeds Trinity University, said: “The Catholic Health Association’s mission is to advance the Catholic health ministry of the United States in caring for people and communities. I am hopeful being accepted into this association as an international member will provide a range of opportunities for Leeds Trinity to advance our mission.” 

Comprised of more than 600 hospitals and 1,600 long-term care and other health facilities in all 50 states of America, the Catholic health ministry is the largest group of non-profit health care providers in the US. At the national level, these organisations join together in the Catholic Health Association of the United States to raise a collective passionate voice for compassionate care. 

This aligns closely with Leeds Trinity’s core values including dignity and care, and solidarity and service, and reflects the University’s approach to developing compassionate, competent and highly skilled future nurses and health care professionals.
