Students from Leeds Trinity University had the opportunity to learn from sports production experts during a visit to the IMG UK studios, the world’s largest independent producer and distributor of sports programming.
Based at Stockley Park in London, the studio delivers world-class on-site and remote production, broadcasting live sports, documentaries, brand partnerships, entertainment formats and podcast channels. Over 35,000 hours of sports content is produced in the studio every year.
During the visit, Television Production and Sports Journalism students had the opportunity to meet and network with a team of producers, broadcast engineers, productions managers and others responsible for the output. The experienced IMG staff delivered a series of engaging presentations, hands-on workshops and interactive sessions which developed the students’ skills and confidence to work in busy and fast-paced production studios and galleries.
Students also learnt about the various career paths and job opportunities at IMG Studios as they start to plan for their own future prospects beyond university. Spanning six continents and 35 countries, IMG offer employment opportunities in media, events and professional services across the world.
Lucas Stanley, Television Production student at Leeds Trinity University, said: “Thanks to the IMG Open Day, I have been able to learn more about sports broadcasting on a large scale. I will apply what I learnt to my work placement with Leeds United TV.”
Samuel Wright, final year Sports Journalism student at Leeds Trinity University, said "This was a fantastic opportunity and one that I am happy I made the most of. Seeing the incredible amount of content IMG and Premier League Productions produce was a fantastic experience”.
The visit presented an opportunity for students to gain a real insight into the inner workings of one of the world's largest independent sports producers and distributors. IMG have a large portfolio of clients in the global sports industry, including the Premier League, Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), World Rugby and Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).
Carrie Sasdy, Senior Talent Advisor at IMG Media - Early Careers Lead, said: “We believe that events like these play a crucial role in inspiring and nurturing the next generation of talent in the media and entertainment industry. It was incredible to see so many bright minds eager to learn about our industry and explore career opportunities with us.”
Richard Greatrex, Programme Leader, Television Production at Leeds Trinity University, commented: "Our students had an excellent opportunity to see how the professionals produce live sports content and also reflect on the importance of what they are taught in their subjects at Leeds Trinity University. I know the students have come away from their day at IMG excited to apply the lessons learnt to their projects, and I look forward to seeing how their work benefits as a result.”
