Routes into teaching
Choose your route
There’s more than one way to train as a teacher - and at Leeds Trinity, we’ll help you find the route that fits your experience, lifestyle and goals.
All our routes lead to the same qualification: a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
Each option is designed to give you the practical experience, academic knowledge and professional support you need to begin your teaching career with confidence.
Our Find your PGCE page allows you to filter by delivery route, subject or age phase so you can clearly see which options are available.
University-led PGCE
Our University academic experts will deliver all training in subject and age phase pedagogy, who are at the cutting edge of educational research and policy.
For your school-based training, our specialist placement team will take into account your specific circumstances to place you in a suitable school from our extensive partnership.
This will provide the breadth of experience you need to launch your teaching career successfully.
You will be supported in school by fully-trained mentors.
A range of experiences provided by the University will enrich the curriculum, drawing upon our partnerships from across the education sector.
Best for:
Those who want a university-led experience with placements organised for them.
Delivery Partner Model
Your teacher training programme will be co-ordinated and delivered by colleagues within your Lead School or Trust, with Leeds Trinity acting as the accredited provider.
Aspects of your training will be delivered by tutors from the University and colleagues in school.
You will be placed in schools that work closely with your Lead School or Trust.
You will be supported by fully-trained mentors.
You'll spend very little time on the Leeds Trinity University campus, but you'll still be able to access all the specialist support that you would expect from a university.
Best for:
Those who want to be based in a school environment throughout their training year.
