We have a vibrant and supporting Postgraduate Researcher (PGR) community, with regular opportunities to gather for networking and presenting research, including a monthly PGR Forum and the annual PGR Conference.

PGRs are also welcome to engage with staff, by attending research seminars and conferences within the Faculties and across the University as a whole.

Training

Leeds Trinity offers a programme of bespoke training sessions for PGRs, organized in three stages: induction and first year; post-transfer; and final year. These sessions focus on providing PGRs with opportunities to develop skills in literature searching, academic writing, project management, and data management, as well as equipping them for ‘milestones’ such as the transfer viva and the final viva. Extensive resources to support asynchronous learning are available on Moodle, our Virtual Learning Environment.

All PGRs are required to draw up a training plan and to reflect upon it and update it regularly. Leeds Trinity PGRs can access free online training in research methods through the university’s membership of GuildHE. The University has a research training programme, open to all staff and PGRs, which covers a range of research methodologies and project design.

Development

The University’s research training offer for staff and PGRs includes sessions on career development including publishing, promoting research, impact, collaboration, and applying for research funding. Career advice and other support for PGRs PGRs have access to the full range of the University’s Student Services, including careers advice and support with CV building from the Careers and Placements department. Further support includes wellbeing, disability services, and financial advice, as well as access to extensive online wellbeing resources via an app.

Library support

The extensive Leeds Trinity University Library collections include print books, ebooks, online journals, and databases.  Each School has a specialist Liaison Librarian who can assist PGRs to develop high-level literature search and review skills, advise on making use of referencing software, and on how to obtain materials from outside the Leeds Trinity University collections.  More information can be found via the Library website.

All researchers have access to Pure, the University's research management system, allowing them to create a personal profile and add details of their publications and other research-related activities.  Information added to Pure is published to the Pure portal which is a publicly accessible website.
