We know that covering the costs of studying at university isn’t always easy. That’s why we’ve worked closely with the Leeds Trinity Students’ Union to look at how we support our students.
The ‘Helping you with the cost’ support package at Leeds Trinity University has been designed to help as many students as we can with the cost of living. This package covers a range of support that will be available throughout the academic year for students:
- We no longer charge library fines
- Increased Hardship Fund
- The Grub Hub – free non-perishable food and hygiene items
- Increased digital loan devices
- Increased placement allowance
- Support towards your laundry costs
- Study Support Fund – food vouchers, support on travel and some bills

How can students access the support?
Removal of Library Fines
- The Library will no longer be charging fines on late returns. All existing fines will be waived, though students will still be charged £15 for lost/damaged items.
- Automatic renewals will now continue for nine months from issue unless an item is reserved by another user.
- Reserved items are not renewable, and students’ accounts will be blocked should a reserved item not be returned by the due date.
- There is a free postal returns service for those unable to attend campus.

Increased Hardship Fund
- The Hardship Fund provides discretionary financial assistance for students to help them access and remain in higher education – particularly those needing financial help to meet extra costs that cannot be met from other sources of support.
- Applications are considered on a case-by-case basis.
- To apply, students should complete the online application through their e:Vision account – when they log into e:Vision select ‘My Finance’ on the main page, then the purple ‘Hardship Fund’ box.
- Students can find out more about the Hardship Fund in the Money Advice section of myLTU. It is strongly advised to read all the information in this section before applying for the Hardship Fund.
The Grub Hub
- The Grub Hub is a new site on the Leeds Trinity campus where students in need can access immediate essential items including non-perishable food and hygiene items.
- Students can apply to access the Grub Hub via Student Support at studentsupport@leedstrinity.ac.uk.
- A meeting will take place with a member of the Student Support team, who will collect the items for the student.
- If a student needs to access the Grub Hub a second time, it is likely that they will be contacted by Money Advice to discuss their circumstances.
Increased Digital Loan Devices
- Students can access a digital loan device (Surface Go) via applying to Student Support at studentsupport@leedstrinity.ac.uk.
- A meeting will take place, and the student will be provided with information around money advice, support, and the digital loan device.
- Student Support will contact IT Services to set-up and confirm the Surface Go loan.
Increased Placement Allowance
- Placement allowance is available to undergraduate students who are on placement.

Support towards your laundry costs
- The free laundry credit is available for students in: All Saints Court, Fountains Court, Kirkstall, Norwich and Whitby Halls.
- Students will be able to collect pre-loaded cards from the Fountains Court office/mailroom during office hours. Please bring your student ID.
- This offer is not available for students in Trinity Close as a washing machine is provided as part of the accommodation.
- Cards are limited to one per person, and students cannot pick up a card for someone else.
- Once the credit has run out, you will need to pay for your laundry.
Study Support Fund
- The Study Support Fund covers a range of support, including the main elements below. Students can access all the support listed, and further support if needed once they’ve contacted Student Support.
- Students can access supermarket food vouchers by applying to Student Support at studentsupport@leedstrinity.ac.uk. A meeting will take place, where the student will be provided with information around money advice and support, as well as a chat about the voucher. A member of the Student Support team will provide them with the voucher.
- Students can access travel support by applying to Student Support at studentsupport@leedstrinity.ac.uk. A meeting will take place, where the student will be provided with information around money advice and support, as well as a chat about the travel support they require. Travel support will come through using MCard and vouchers, and students will need to download the MCard app. All of this will be explained when they meet with Student Support.
- Students can access support with paying bills by applying to Student Support at studentsupport@leedstrinity.ac.uk. A meeting will take place, where the student will be provided with information around money advice and support, as well as a chat about the bill payments. In this meeting they will need to bring evidence of the financial need (for example an unpaid or overdue utility bill).
Further support
There is also a range of support available to students now.
Student Support
The Student Support team is available seven days a week to support students in all aspects of student life. This could be for support relating to a student’s course, accommodation or for more general advice such as relationships or your wellbeing. Student Support will be able to signpost students to any funds or schemes that they might be able to access.
Money Advice
The Money Advice Team can support students with most money queries including Student Finance, Hardship Funds, Bursaries from Leeds Trinity, tax, benefits, debts and more.
Travel
Leeds Trinity operates a free Shuttle Bus to improve transport options for students and staff travelling by train from Leeds, Bradford, Headingley and Burley Park.
The Horsforth based shuttle bus is fully wheelchair accessible and operates during term time at key points in Horsforth, including Horsforth train station which is situated on the Leeds-Harrogate line. The bus has a 30+ capacity and is fully wheelchair accessible.
Digital Support
Students can download and install a range of software for free, from Adobe Creative Cloud to Office 365 and Endnote.
