Award-winning author and alumna of Leeds Trinity University Dorothy Koomson is returning to Leeds to deliver a talk at the University, following the publication of her recent book Tell Me Your Secret.

Dorothy studied Psychology and Public Media at Leeds Trinity University (or Trinity and All Saints College as it was then) from 1990-1993, later taking on the role as Vice-President of the Students' Union. Last year she was also awarded Honorary Fellowship in recognition of her outstanding contribution to writing and journalism.

After publishing her debut novel in 2003, Dorothy has since written 15 novels and, despite moving to London in her 20s and currently living in Brighton, many of her books include a nod to the city of Leeds.

Reflecting on her time in Leeds, Dorothy said: "I completed my first degree at Trinity and All Saints - now Leeds Trinity University - and then lived there for two years after I finished my degree, so it's a place that I'll always hold close to my heart. My first three books - The Cupid Effect, The Chocolate Run and My Best Friend's Girl are all set in Leeds and I hope that I have managed to capture the uniqueness of the city with my writing."

Dorothy's books have exceeded sales of two million copies in the UK alone and have been translated into more than 30 languages worldwide. They've been selected for the Richard and Judy Summer Reads, commended by the Sunday Times, shortlisted for British Book Awards and adapted for TV. She was described by The Independent as one of 'Britain's biggest selling black authors of adult fiction'.

Professor Margaret House OBE, Vice-Chancellor at Leeds Trinity University, said: "We are delighted to be welcoming Dorothy back to the University to speak about her career as an author and journalist. She is a fantastic advocate of the University and of Leeds, and we look forward to hearing about her journey from Leeds Trinity student to award-winning author."

Telling Secrets: A Trinity Talk with Dorothy Koomson takes place at Leeds Trinity University on Thursday 11 July from 7.00pm. Tickets cost £10 (or £12 on the door) and include a drink and buffet on arrival, entry to the talk and the opportunity to meet Dorothy at a book signing afterwards.

The talk will explore her journey from university student to global bestselling author. It will feature readings from her new novel and she will share her top tips for aspiring writers.
