The Leeds-premiere of a film about a teenager with a dream of becoming a drag queen will be screened this week at Leeds Trinity University.

Describes by its writer as "the Frilly Elliot of Drag", Sequins is a short, coming-of-age, comedy film set in Blackpool in 1997. It follows the story of 17-year old Paul - played by Leeds-based actor Robbie Gaskell - and his journey of becoming a drag queen.

The event on Thursday 21 March, 5.00-8.00pm, features a screening of the film followed by a Q&A with the cast and crew.

Mike Beddoes, Director of Sequins, said: "We are over the moon to be coming back to Leeds, as without the city, there would be no film. Robbie Gaskell, our lead actor, is a Leeds native, and so are our sound team from Audiopedia. So Leeds as a place is in the DNA of Sequins."

Amy Clarke, Writer of Sequins, said: "I cannot wait to see what people at the screening make of the film, and I am really looking forward to meeting and speaking to any writers who come along."

The event is being hosted at Leeds Trinity University following a talk by Amy and Mike at the University's Journalism and Media Week in November 2018.

Amy and Mike will be joined on the evening by lead actor Robbie and Lubos Jurik and Max Rutter from Audiopedia.
