Leeds Trinity University is launching a new course in Production Skills as part of its [re]boot programme.
Starting on Monday 1 November, the [re]boot course in Production Skills will be delivered online, with adult learners over the age of 18 having the opportunity to upskill or gain new skills and qualifications to enter employment within the TV industry.
Leeds Trinity lecturers and industry experts will deliver the workshops through online teaching and practical exercises and will be able to support individuals applying for jobs and preparing for interviews. The course has been designed by course leader and production executive at Candour Productions Ali Hobbs in partnership with local businesses, to help participants reach their full potential through classroom study, peer mentoring, confidence-building and visits to the workplace.
Progression routes following completion of the course include roles as production secretaries and coordinators, to provide practical and logistical support to creative production for both factual and drama programmes.
The latest course in Production Skills will be delivered through the University’s partnership with [re]boot – a £3 million project which offers free courses for individuals to support their employment prospects in the Leeds city region. It is funded by the European Social Fund and managed by West Yorkshire Combined Authority and Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership.
Clare Thomas, Production Executive at True North and programme tutor, said: “I can honestly say I’ve never seen such a busy time in the TV industry as we’re experiencing right now with a surge in jobs being advertised, but not enough people to undertake them. Getting new, diverse people into the talent pool is more important than ever.”
Clemence Ludhuy, who completed the Production Skills course in November 2019, said: “The course provided a realistic view of the profession, incorporating technical and practical experiences that were appropriately pitched for those partaking. I thoroughly enjoyed the experiential learning aspect of the course and I have already recommended the course to others.”
Professor Malcolm Todd, Deputy Vice-Chancellor at Leeds Trinity University, said: “We are delighted to be supporting individuals with free training opportunities in partnership with [re]boot. Our courses in Production Skills and other key topics like Digital Coding have been developed in partnership with industry professionals to support the needs of local employers, address the digital skills gap in Leeds and ensure that individuals gain industry-relevant skills which support them in their careers.”
