Popular broadcaster, presenter and journalist, Jeremy Vine will give a talk to students studying journalism and media at Leeds Trinity University. The talk will be live streamed through the University’s YouTube channel allowing the public to watch and gain an insight into his journalism career and hear questions posed by Leeds Trinity students.

The ‘No news is bad news! Life lessons with Jeremy Vine’ session will take place on Tuesday 8 November from 4.00 – 5.00pm as part of Leeds Trinity’s flagship Journalism and Media Week.

Jeremy Vine is a television and radio presenter, broadcaster and journalist. Best known as the host of his BBC Radio 2 lunchtime programme, which presents news, views and interviews with inspirational guests, he is also the host of the popular on-screen quiz programme ‘Eggheads’ and was previously a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing. Since 2018, he has presented his own daily Channel 5 current affairs show called Jeremy Vine.

Now in its 14th year, Journalism and Media Week gives students at Leeds Trinity the opportunity to attend and engage with talks, workshops, ‘in conversations’, Q&A sessions and network with world-renowned broadcasters and journalists. The guest speakers provide an insight into what it’s like to work in today’s journalism and media industry. The event has established a reputation for bringing some of the key figures in the industry to Leeds.

In a recorded video message, Jeremy Vine said: “I am so excited to be part of Journalism and Media Week and would be really chuffed if you could find a few minutes of your time to join me for a chat about the media.

“It was 1986 when I had my first job on a newspaper, and it was another planet. I could be talking about the 1800s so much has changed, but the job of the journalist has not – and that is to find out what is going on, because news is everything someone doesn’t want you to print, and I can’t wait to talk to you about it.”

Other speakers as part of Leeds Trinity’s Journalism and Media Week programme include BBC and Sky Sports presenter, Mark Chapman; original Hacienda DJ turned broadcaster and media lecturer, Graeme Park; multi award-winning creator of prime-time factual programmes and films, Heenan Bhatti; Spanish football journalist, presenter and author, Guillem Balague; and professional photographer Lisa Stonehouse, who has worked with the BBC, Screen Yorkshire and English Heritage as well as on several well-known TV productions and films.

The programme also features a host of successful Leeds Trinity alumni including Emmy Award nominated TV and radio presenter, Lauren Layfield; Managing Director of award-winning No Brainer digital marketing agency, Gary Jenkins; London Press Club Young Journalist of the Year, Noa Hoffman; Premier League production assistant, Barbara Berczi; and Leicestershire County Cricket Club CEO, Sean Jarvis.
