Leeds Trinity University will welcome industry experts from the UK’s leading broadcast, newspaper, magazine and digital media organisations at its annual Journalism and Media Week.
The event has established a reputation for bringing some of the key figures in the industry to Leeds.
The University’s annual flagship programme returns in-person after two years of virtual and hybrid events due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Familiar names and faces from the UK’s leading media outlets will descend upon the University’s Horsforth campus from Monday 7 November.
Now in its 14th year, Journalism and Media Week gives students from Leeds Trinity University and others from the region the opportunity to attend talks, workshops, ‘in conversation’ and Q&A sessions with world-renowned broadcasters, journalists and industry leaders who provide an insight into what it’s like to work in today’s journalism and media industry.
Throughout the week students will have the opportunity to network with a range of professionals including BBC and Sky Sports Presenter, Mark Chapman; original Hacienda DJ turned Broadcaster and Media Lecturer, Graeme Park; multi award-winning creator of prime-time factual programmes and films, Heenan Bhatti; Spanish Football Journalist, Presenter and Author, Guillem Balague; and Professional Photographer Lisa Stonehouse, who has worked with the BBC, Screen Yorkshire and English Heritage as well as several well-known TV productions and films.
The programme also features a host of successful Leeds Trinity alumni including Emmy Award nominated TV and radio presenter, Lauren Layfield; Managing Director of award-winning No Brainer digital marketing agency, Gary Jenkins; London Press Club Young Journalist of the Year nominee, Noa Hoffman; Premier League Production Assistant, Barbara Berczi; and Leicestershire County Cricket Club CEO, Sean Jarvis.
Professor Charles Egbu, Vice Chancellor at Leeds Trinity University said: “After two years of delivering the event in a virtual/hybrid format, it is exciting to be able to host Journalism & Media Week 2022 in-person. We are looking forward to welcoming so many brilliant experts from across the industry to speak and deliver workshops to our students on campus.
“Students attending Journalism and Media Week always take a lot from the experience. The event provides them with an opportunity to hear from and network with leading professionals in the journalism and media industry, including many of our fantastic alumni who we look forward to welcoming back to Leeds Trinity.”
Darren Harper, Sports Journalism Programme Leader at Leeds Trinity University and co-lead of Journalism and Media Week, said: “Journalism and Media Week provides a great opportunity for our students to gain an insight into what it’s like to work and build a career in the real world of journalism and media.
“Students can meet, engage and network with some of the industry’s best and they always learn so much from this event. This year’s line-up is one of the most exciting yet, with a well-rounded programme of sessions to suit all our students and their courses. As always, this includes some of the University’s journalism and media alumni who can show our students just what they can achieve after leaving Leeds Trinity.”
This programme is aimed primarily at the students and staff of Leeds Trinity, however, it is also open to members of the public who are interested in attending.
