Leeds Trinity University will host the first in a new programme of employability opportunities later this month aimed at enhancing employment prospects for recent graduates across West Yorkshire.
Commencing on Thursday 23 June, ‘Navigate – Digital marketing for graduates’ is aimed at graduates interested in digital marketing as a career path, and those wanting support to identify and access appropriate employment opportunities.
Open to graduates from 2018 – 2021, the course will be delivered online over three sessions and will explore the basic elements of digital marketing through activities including a skills audit, guest speakers and group challenges.
The training will be led by business and industry specialists, employability experts and recruiters.
This course is the first to be delivered to graduates as part of the ‘Skills Connect’ programme supported through the West Yorkshire Combined Authority (WYCA). It is being delivered in partnership with other universities and colleges through the Go Higher West Yorkshire Consortium.
As part of the programme, the partnership will deliver a series of workshops, industry-related content and employer networking events including higher education providers, employers and specialist consultants.
It aims to support over 1,000 graduates across the region and will offer a flexible model to support the individual needs of each graduate, connecting them to high-level employment opportunities.
Claire Newhouse, Director of the Centre for Apprenticeships, Work-based Learning and Skills at Leeds Trinity University, said: “We are proud to launch our first Navigate course which will provide local graduates with an insight into digital marketing and some vital employability skills to help them in their career journey after leaving education. We look forward to enhancing the prospects of many more graduates as the programme develops.”
Tracy Brabin, Mayor of West Yorkshire said: “A Skills Connect free training course is just what you need to gain new skills suitable for many industries and feel confident and prepared to apply for exciting new job roles, progress in your career or start your career journey after leaving education.
“We aim to support and fund over 4,000 adults across West Yorkshire to complete a training course and gain the right skills to succeed in local job vacancies, which in turn will help rebuild our local economy.”
Funding was secured for the Skills Connect programme as part of WYCA’s Adult Skills Training Framework, which focuses on gaining and retaining meaningful employment, while equipping adult learners with advanced skills to work in the key sectors outlined in the Leeds City Region Employment and Skills Plan.
The new programme will build on Leeds Trinity’s established focus on employability for its students, with professional work placements built into all undergraduate degrees.
