Welcome to the School of Computer Science
Here, we are more than just a place to study – we are a community that cares deeply about your personal and academic growth. We take the time to get to know each of our students as individuals, understanding your unique ambitions, strengths, and dreams. From day one, you’ll feel the difference, as we support you not just as a learner, but as a person.
Our programmes are hands-on and practical, designed to immerse you in the latest developments in technology. But what makes us truly special is how we blend this with a personalised approach. Our dedicated staff will work closely with you, offering guidance and support at every step, ensuring you have the confidence and skills to succeed in whichever area of computer science excites you the most.
We’ve created an environment where everyone is encouraged to grow at their own pace, where your voice is heard, and where we help you navigate the exciting and sometimes daunting world of computer science. Beyond the classroom, we’re passionate about involving our students in cutting-edge research. From artificial intelligence to cybersecurity and data science, our School is at the forefront of innovative research projects that are shaping the future of technology. You’ll have the chance to get involved, working alongside expert academics on real-world challenges, and contributing to exciting discoveries that can make a real impact on society.
We also offer a wide range of super-curricular activities that complement your studies. These include hackathons, coding clubs, guest lectures from industry leaders, and collaborative projects with local tech companies. These opportunities not only allow you to deepen your knowledge and skills but also to connect with fellow students and professionals, broadening your horizons and preparing you for the next steps in your career.
I invite you to explore all that we offer, and I look forward to meeting you personally as you embark on your journey with us. Together, we can achieve great things.

School activities
We pride ourselves on preparing our students for their future careers through work experience and the skills to promote themselves in a changing world.
Employer visits provide our students with opportunities to network with industry professionals. These connections can lead to internships, job offers, and mentorship opportunities.
Employer visits can make the learning experience more engaging and expose our students to the direct application of their academic studies in the real world. Meeting successful professionals, learning about their career journeys, and allowing them to network can inspire and motivate students to set ambitious career goals and work towards achieving them. Below are a few examples of learning opportunities our students have taken part in.
Employer trips and events
Employer trips and events
Students from the School of Computer Science recently stepped into Amazon’s new £500 million fulfilment centre outside of Leeds. The facility integrates advanced Amazon robotics technology to stow, pick and ship customer orders.
The visit provided a fantastic opportunity to witness automation in action. As part of the visit, senior leaders in engineering, technology and operations held insight sessions where they shared their career journeys and expertise.
This is one of many trips for students studying Computer Science, following recent visits to Bletchley Park and the National Museum of Computing.
Hackathons
Hackathons
Students from the School of Computer Science and Law School worked together to share ideas, deliver pitches and tackle real-world problems at the LegalTech in Leeds Hackathon.
Students came up with technology-based solutions to legal challenges before presenting to a panel of judges.
Legal technology is a growing field, and the event allowed students to network, hear from industry experts, and gain valuable hands-on experience.

School events
School events
The School of Computer Science had the privilege of attending Girl Tech Leeds for the second year running, an empowering event organised by Ahead Partnership. This remarkable gathering brought together female leaders in tech and innovation, uniting them to inspire and engage the next generation of young women.
Held in Leeds, the event featured some of the city's most influential businesswomen, each of whom shared their personal journeys, professional experiences, and valuable insights into the tech industry. These inspiring women showcased the diverse opportunities available within the sector, providing a comprehensive view of what a career in tech could entail.
Our participation in this event highlighted our commitment to supporting initiatives that promote diversity and inclusion in the tech industry. We believe that by encouraging and nurturing the aspirations of all young people, we can contribute to building a more innovative and equitable future.
